Peeta and Katniss’ Training Suits
Apparel

During the Games training, the tributes were dressed in minimalist, unisex uniforms of black, grey, and maroon.

“Short stand of colors and chunky black boots helped to imagine a rugged image that felt equal parts prison, sport, and military uniform.”

Katniss’ Interview (Girl on Fire) Dress
Apparel

For Katniss’ first interview with the host of the Hunger Games, Caesar Flickerman, she wore a glittering red dress. She won the Capitol over by showing off her outfit and twirling around, making her look beautiful.

“When she twirled, artificial flames engulfed the bottom of the dress. This is when she gained the nickname “Girl on Fire.’”

Effie Trinket’s 74th Reaping Dress
Apparel

The dazzling Effie Trinket arrived at the 74th reaping day in this vivid magenta suit. This was the first look at the world of the Capitol that Katniss and Peeta were whisked away in to compete.

“In the Capitol, fashion was displayed through a bold use of color, volume, and layering.”

Peacekeeper Suit
Apparel

This somber, tonal landscape of reaping day was shattered by the arrival of the Peacekeepers in their contrasting white and black uniforms. The Peacekeepers were controlled by the Capitol, and were tasked with maintaining order throughout the nation of Panem. They essentially acted as the government's internal security force in the various districts. They ensured that the Capitol's laws were obeyed, and punished those who broke them.

“Peacekeepers also form the bulk of the Capitol's army, serving as foot soldiers and piloting hovercrafts.”

Peeta and Katniss’ Reaping Outfits
Apparel

Katniss’ first reaping dress (for the 74th Hunger Games), made of vintage fabric with small details at the shoulders, represented both her beauty and vulnerability. Peeta looked very presentable and sharp in his plain shirt and slightly pinstriped pants.

“These outfits contrasted directly with Katniss’ image of a hunter and Peeta’s background as a poor baker’s son.”

Katniss' Hunting Jacket
Apparel

One of the key pieces of Katniss’ outfits was the story and history of this oversized leather jacket that Katniss wore. It once belonged to her father, and she wore it while hunting outside the district limits with her friend, Gale.

“While the jacket itself does not play that big of role to the story, tt quickly became a symbol of Katniss’ strength and allegiance to her family.”

Effie Trinket’s Wedding Party Dress
Apparel

This purple dress was what Effie wore to Katniss and Peeta’s wedding party at the presidential palace. Knowing that this night meant a lot to the capital and to the couple, Effie wanted to look her best, which, in the eyes of the Capitol, she did.

“The fashion at the Capitol is much different than the districts and is an acquired taste. There are many mismatched colors and wild, bold patterns and hairstyles.”

Finnick Odair’s Gold Bangle
Apparel

In the 75th Hunger Games, Finnick Odair from District 4 had a token that was a gold bangle with a flame pattern. This token was first given to Haymitch Abernathy from Effie Trinket as a sign of them being a team. Haymitch gave it to Finnick to tell Katniss to make him an ally, as he could later help her in the games.

“At first, Katniss was slightly confused with the fact that Finnick had the bangle, and thought he stole it from Haymitch, but then realized that Haymitch had given it to Finnick to send her a signal.”

Peeta’s Medallion
Apparel

Every Tribute gets to carry one non-weapon item into the arena as a “token” from their district. Katniss carries her Mockingjay pin in both the first and second Games. Peeta, in the 75th Games, wears a medallion. Effie made the medallion upon Peeta's request. It contained pictures of the three people (other than Peeta) who Katniss' cares about most in the world; Prim, her mother, and Gale.

“Peeta hoped the reminder of what she has to live for would motivate her to try to survive the Games, rather than sacrificing her life to save him, as she intended.”

Peeta and Katniss’ First Chariot Outfits
Apparel

Katniss and Peeta wore black suits with capes that were able to artificially set on fire on command. Since they hail from District 12 where coal mining is the main industry, their outfits represented pieces of burning coal, the black jumpsuit being the coal and the flaming cape the fire.

“This furthered Katniss’ nickname ‘Girl on Fire.’”
