]]>Peeta Mellark, a baker's son from District 12, was a very compassionate person and as good with words. He was in love with Katniss Everdeen since the age of five, but never confessed his feelings until he was reaped alongside her for the 74th Hunger Games.

]]>Gale Hawthorne was Katniss’ best friend and hunting partner. He was in love with Katniss and was forced to watch as she volunteered for the 74th Hunger Games in the place of her sister and faked a romance with Peeta Mellark in order to stay alive. After the Games, he became a threat to the Capitol through his semi-romantic relationship with Katniss, and was used to gain leverage over her. He escaped the bombing of District 12, and managed to save almost 800 others. In District 13, he became a soldier for the rebellion and fought on Katniss' side for the remainder of the war.

]]>After winning the 74th Games, Peeta and Katniss both appeared for the post-Games interview. Katniss was told by Haymitch Abernathy that they must act as though they were madly in love and that she would have rather died than lose Peeta. Katniss was dressed as an innocent young girl in a yellow dress that resembled candlelight to draw attention away from her rebellious actions.

]]>When entering the Training Center, tributes were required to enter via chariot rides that would show the audience what to expect from the competitors of each district. The chariots would be decorated according to which district they belonged to and their district's industry.
