]]>A reaping is an annual event that takes place in every district before each Hunger Games, where the tributes of the upcoming Games are chosen. Each district's escort randomly chooses the name of one male and one female tribute from two separate glass bowls. Those picked are then the official tributes for the upcoming Games.

]]>This somber, tonal landscape of reaping day was shattered by the arrival of the Peacekeepers in their contrasting white and black uniforms. The Peacekeepers were controlled by the Capitol, and were tasked with maintaining order throughout the nation of Panem. They essentially acted as the government's internal security force in the various districts. They ensured that the Capitol's laws were obeyed, and punished those who broke them.
