Magical Swords in High Fantasy

While there is a large diversity of magical weapons used in high fantasy, the man focus of this collection is the magical sword. Many of the magical swords in this collection have greater legends than their masters, and aid the protagonists through their journeys. Often given their own name, the magical swords can sometimes be sentient enough to save their master’s life.  May times these magical swords play significant parts in the overall arc of the story and assist the protagonists in defeating their foes.

While magical weapons can be found in various genres, including folklore and mythology, the focus of this collection is on magical swords in modern high-fantasy novels and the importance they play in those texts. This was not created to exclude older literature, but instead created to look specifically at certain items in modern fiction. The texts included in this collection have publication dates that range from the late 1800s to today. The items I have included come from my own reading experience and the reading experience of other members of this database site.
