The Use of Magical Weapons in High Fantasy

Weapons in literature have been aiding mankind’s struggle against many types of foes since before pen was first set to paper. Tales, handed down through generations by oral story telling traditions, were full of brave warriors and gods who were as powerful without their weapons as they were with them. While many weapons in old mythological tales had powers of their own, they were usually deemed great by those who wielded them. Today, weapons portrayed in high fantasy novels often have their own magical properties and are significant to the hero’s quest.
