The Oval Portrait
The Oval Portrait is a short story by Edgar Allen Poe about a man who stays at a Chateau for a night to rest and heal from an injury. When trying to sllep he starts reading a book about the art in the room, and upon further examination see a portrait of a beautiful woman. According to the book, the portrait was of the painters wife, and he incessantly strived for so much perfection in the painting that it eventually took her life.
